J.S. Bach Cello Suites arranged for the Bassoon

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello, BWV 1007-1012, are some of the most profound and beloved works in the solo repertoire. For centuries, they have captivated performers across various instruments. This edition features the first three suites adapted for bassoon. I have included a facsimile of Anna Magdalena Bach’s manuscript so that every performer can quickly see the editorial choices I have made.

I hope it offers a fresh perspective on Bach’s cello suites and inspires bassoonists and other bass wind players to engage creatively with these wonderful pieces, discovering innovative solutions to the idiomatic challenges that this demanding string repertoire presents to wind players.
